It is your choice, but choose His will.

For years, I hear Christians saying “I think God is giving me a choice.”

“I can choose this path or that path, He doesn’t care…He just wants me to choose.”

“God wants to know what I would want…He just wants me to make a decision.”

And TT is ova hur like:

And I’m like the God of the universe who happens to call Himself “the Way”…is putting the ball in yo cote?

That’s what really goes on in my head as TT nods….just in case you’re wondering.

Tell me one place in scripture where Jesus said “Lemme see…it’s either the cross or a house in Nazareth…hmmm. My Father is saying I can choose….either way He will luh meh…hmmm.”

No, instead we see Jesus saying “I only do what I see My Father doing. I only speak what He says.”

I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by Himself. He does only what He sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does. ~Jesus in John 5:19

HE DOES NOTHING BY HIMSELF. ONLY what the Father is doing.

Whelp, that leaves…no room for any other decisions.

For I did not speak from Myself, but the Father Himself, having sent Me, gave Me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak. ~Jesus in John 12:49

And the best one…in the garden…”Not My will but yours be done.” (Luke 22:42)

When asked how to pray…Jesus said it like dis….”Your will be done on earth as it IS in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10)

It’s His will, His way, Er’ day.

He is HUGE. He is wiser. His vantage point is better.

Why in the world, would we think that our perception on this playing field could be one of choice?

Yes, choose life…not death.

Choose His will.

Choose His desire.

Choose to follow Him or not.

Choose to eat from all these trees. (Even that was defined specifically.)

Show me ONE place in the Bible where man chose his own way and it turned out good for him.

OR

Show me ONE place in the Bible where God said “You choose whatever call on your life you want…and I will bless it.”

Seriously…I am not intimidated by debate. I like believers thinking. If you come up with something, I wanna hear it!

I look at Jonah being like “Nah brah….I got my owwwwnnn way.”

Didn’t work out that well for him.

Saul choosing to do sacrifices his way, right away, didn’t work out well for him.

Peter chose to rebuke Jesus for saying He was was going to be killed and die….you know that Jesus was submitting to God’s will for His life. That didn’t work out well for Peter.

Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.” (Matthew 16:23)

Peter chose to “protect” Jesus from death. Sounds noble cutting an ear off for Jesus, but it wasn’t His way.

Yes, we have free will. I’m totes down with that.

But free will to CHOOSE His will.

Is He redemptive? Of course, but why not seek His will?

Well, Teresa, are you saying that we should seek God’s direction for everything??? Like what we eat and drink and wear?

I mean…He is Lord, right? If He is Lord, what isn’t under His submission?

We like to live a compartmentalized Christianity which fleshes out like so:

Jesus gets the bigger decisions. ~Compartmentalizer

Not anything about my dating life. I take the reins in that.

Not anything about what I eat.

Not anything about my next job. I can figure it out. I mean, I got a brain for a reason.

Not anything about what I choose to watch on T.V. It’s just me relaxing.

Not anything about what I choose to listen to. I just like the beat.

But the Bible seems to speak of a better life.

Jesus, the living Word, lived a better way.

He was the Way.

It was all in submission to His Father.

So, why on God’s green earth do we think we have a different Way than the Way shown to us in Jesus?

He is the Shepherd, right? Jesus said “Follow Him.” So, that would mean in His path. Behind Him. This isn’t a free for all journey down here on earth. This is a guided Way.

Catch me asking Jesus about every compartment as I attempt to follow Him, opening up every door in my house to Him…that’s Lordship.

And that’s the only Way I see in the Word. (John 14:6)
