Christian phrases, encouragements, teachings, and sayings all should be filtered through Scripture….and I can assure you 10 times outta 10, you will never have to forgive God.
As I have been meditating on the fact we have wicked hearts (Jer 17:9), I have also thought of what the Bible says that you have a new heart too. (Ezekiel 36:26) That the pure in heart see God. (Matt 5:8) However, Paul is saying he is doing what he doesn’t want to do. (Rom 7:15) There is a battle between flesh and the Spirit. (Gal 5:17) We are to walk in the Spirit and not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Gal 5:16)
That equals, we have a new heart that is still capable of sin. We have a flesh that we will war against until we see Jesus face to face. And if we ever choose to give up in that battle or walk naked on the battlefield without armor, we will get pummeled. Thankfully, it’s a choice every day to choose to walk in the Spirit.
This morning, I heard the Lord remind me of “To the pure you show Yourself pure” from Psalm 18:26.
“The pure in heart see God” from Matthew 5:8, I was mediating on a few days back.
I’m getting mind blown by all of this and I’ll try to explain.
For sure, we still sin whether in thought, motive or action probably every day if you are in touch with your heart and mind. This could be a prideful thought, a selfish motive, lying, being greedy with food, looking at a woman/man lustfully, not putting another before yourself, having idols of money, fame and sexual temptation…etc.
I am fully aware of my dead flesh along with my restored, new resurrected life.
And….I am commanded to live my life for Christ in Scripture and I desire to please Him. So, I love walking in holiness and purity. I know that a part of my armor is the breastplate of righteousness and the belt of truth. So when I walk in righteousness and truth, no matter what the narrative of lukewarm Christianity tells me, I rejoice!
When you get all the darkness out and walk in the light, it makes total sense that you would see God clearly. “The pure in heart see God.” It’s always easier to walk when all the lights are on in the room than stumble your way in darkness.
And it also makes total sense that when you are choosing to walk in the flesh, like a Christian has the free will to do each and every day, your vision suffers. You are walking in darkness and can’t see God clearly.
Which brings me to how you will never ever ever ever need to forgive God.
If you don’t see Him clearly and think He has something He needs to be forgiven for, then I would encourage you to examine your own heart, not His.
If you are pure in heart you will see God clearly.
He is perfect.
He is in no need of your pardon.
He died for your pardon instead.
So, if you are tempted to think God isn’t good, that He has done you wrong or in some way sinned against you….I implore you, don’t drink that kool-aid of Christianese and say “I just need to forgive God.”
It’s not true. He is perfect, good and full of love.
I don’t care what your counselor said would be therapeutic, your mama and dem said, or however it gets presented as soothing to your ears. If there is something inside you that thinks He isn’t good, no matter how you try to console yourself with this lie, it won’t last.
Truth lasts and He is truth. True healing will come in knowing Him.
If you are having a hard time seeing God (to the pure You show yourself pure), there is some impurity you have allowed in (from someone else’s sin or your own) that you are projecting on Perfection and is causing dullness, blurriness, darkness or outright blindness.
Follow the breadcrumbs back in your suffering.
If anything, forgive the person who hurt you. Forgive yourself for allowing sin in. Forgive your mom, dad, grandma, or grandpa. Forgive Adam and Eve. But by all means you will never need to pardon Perfection.
